The Celts had a love of war and horses. Celtic cavalry developed a reputation as fearsome opponents. They made darting attacks to shower their enemies with javelins and wheel away to reform. Then, once the enemy was disorganized they would charge home with spear and sword to finish the enemy off. So effective were the Celtic horsemen that Hannibal and the Romans hired them as auxiliaries for their armies.
